If you are in the market for a beginner or novice digital single-lens reflex camera (DSLR), the Canon EOS Rebel T7 and Rebel T7i with the best lenses are great options. Some refer to these as the EOS 2000D and EOS 800D, respectively. So do not confuse when some stores or references online use either of these names. There is only about a year difference between the release dates of these cameras.

Canon T7 vs. T7i

Both cameras have a 24-megapixel APS-C sensor and an EF-S lens mount compatible with a wide selection of EF lenses. Although these two models appear to be similar, there are a few notable differences, making one more appealing.

Looking at the image quality, the Rebel T7 and Rebel T7i produce similar-quality images. However, the Rebel T7i runs with the newer Digital 7 processor, while the Rebel T7 runs with the older Digic 4+ processor. The T7i’s newer processor enables faster responsiveness and speed. It also handles noise better than the Digic 4+.

In terms of ISO sensitivity, the T7 offers a sensitivity range of ISO 100 to 6,400, making it two stops slower than the T7i’s ISO 100 to 25,6000 range. The difference in ISO makes T7 less versatile and worse in low-light conditions.

The Rebel T7i has a better autofocusing system, thanks to the 45 cross-type autofocus point system when using the viewfinder. More AF points let you track subjects better across the frame. A standard linear point system is less sensitive than the cross-type, making it less accurate.

When using the live view AF system, the T7i has phase detection, which is available in video and live view mode. Phase detection is faster than contrast detection, which the T7 is using. Phase detection also allows the camera to select any of the 49 AF points.

The Rebel T7i has a vari-angle 3.2-inch touchscreen display that boasts 1,040,000 dots. On the other hand, the Rebel T7’s fixed 3-inch screen only has 921,000 dots. A vari-angle display lets you twist, flip, and angle it for the best view, whether you are trying from below or above head height.

The T7i uses the LP-E17 Lithium-ion battery that can capture up to 600 images per full charge. On the other hand, the T7’s LP-E10 battery can only take up to 500 photos per full charge. Although a difference of 100 is not too huge, it can make a difference when you are out shooting without any spare batteries. Otherwise, battery life isn’t too much of a concern.

In video mode, the Rebel T7i supports Full-HD 1920 x 1080 at 59.94, 50, 25, and 23.98 frames per second. The T7 also supports Full-HD 1920 x 1080 but only at 30, 25, and 24 frames per second. The former is a better choice if you are looking for a great range of frame rates, and 59.94 fps is a good choice for capturing slow motion.
