I chose to travel Latin America as my primary region because of finance, distance, and culture.

What is Latin America?

The Canadian Dollar is valued less than the British Pound and the Euro; most times the US Dollar too. I can’t afford to be a luxury traveler and sleep in penthouses. My salary and currency of operation just wouldn’t make that feasible. I had to become a budget traveller and get the most experience for my dollar. The United States is too similar to Canada, so this was not an option. This is one of the main reasons I chose to travel Latin America instead of, let’s say, Europe.

With the Canadian Dollar valued well compared to Latin American currencies and their consumer price indexes; Latin America was again the easy choice for me. Some countries such as Panama and Ecuador have the USD as the main currency, but their CPI is still lower.

Though I am a budget traveler, my experiences are nothing less than luxurious.

I can travel to Latin America faster than Europe or Asia in terms of flight time.

Most of Latin America speaks Spanish, so I mainly had one language to worry about learning.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not just about saving money in Latin America. The region is full of culture, food, nature, and entertainment to learn and enjoy. One activity I need to improve on is dancing, specifically salsa.

I still have a full-time job in Canada but I am planning to do some long-term travel sometime in the future. I want to discover more of Latin America before I fully plant my feet in a Latin American country. Yes, it’s probably better I just leave work now and go, but I have a few things to sort out here in The Great White North.

I started this travel blog to share my stories and travel photos, and partially fund my voyage. We’ll see how my travels in Central and South America turnout.
