I went to San Jose, Costa Rica in December. The temperature was inviting; not cold nor hot, but more on the warmer side.
On Christmas day I travelled on a tour bus more than 1000 metres upwards in the Alajuela province. I was heading towards the Poas Volcano National Park. The volcano is elevated about 2700 m above sea level.
One would think the park would be vacant on December 25th; damn, was I wrong. When I arrived, there were ticos and tourists flooding the park to see this stratovolcano (volcano built up by many layers).
The climate was cool and windy at this altitude. Some of the people not used to cold climates were a little bothered. The climate wouldn’t be a big deal in a few minutes as we had to walk along a trail about 800 m to see the volcano. This walk definitely warms you up and the temperature won’t bother you anymore.
When I reached the peak of Poas Volcano, I was in awe of this crater that nature created. You’re pretty much at cloud level. The drive and walk was worth the view.
