It was a warm Christmas afternoon when I hopped on the boat steered by Chino. I was starting my journey down, or maybe up, the Sarapiqui River in Costa Rica. My goal was to view the local wildlife while traveling calmly through the river. My hobby is photography and I made sure to bring my DSLR camera equipment on the Sarapiquí River boat ride.
It was a quiet and relaxing afternoon with the exception of my head, neck and eyes which were turning every possible direction to make photos of animals.
Victor my guide told me there are crocodiles in the river. I didn’t believe him, especially since I saw some locals swimming in the Sarapiqui. He mentioned crocodiles are afraid of humans. That was hard to believe after watching Animal Planet. I already saw caimans but no crocs. I took shots of birds and reptiles. Towards the end of the boat ride I finally saw a crocodile swimming in the river. Unfortunately, I only saw it for a few seconds before it submerged, but that thing was huge. I wish I was quicker with my camera and took a picture of that prehistoric creature — maybe, next time.
