I’ve stayed at Hostal La Casona in Holguin, Cuba, a few times. The main reason I like staying here is because of its location. It’s literally a two-minute walk to Parque Calixto Garcia which is the city centre.
Parque Calixto Garcia is where all the action is. There are bars right across from the park and nearby restaurants. Plenty of locals hang-out at this park, especially during the night. If you want to party, the main disco, Casa de la Musica Holguin, is right across the street. There are also other discos right across from the park.
Right beside Hostal La Casona is a barber shop for any guys that may want a haircut before a night out.
The hosts, Dalia and Jose are wonderful. Try Dalia’s mango or guava juice during breakfast; it’s refreshing. They don’t speak English, so a little basic Spanish will help.
There are three rooms available, two of which have air conditioning. The room that doesn’t have air conditioning is at the back of the home and you will need to walk up some stairs. I prefer the room closest to the front door so that I can get in and out quickly. Keep in mind if you stay at the room nearest to the front door that it will be noisy during the day due to the high-traffic area. You don’t go to Cuba to sleep, right?
